What a fabulous Dwankhozi Week we had last week! We started the week talking to some of the teachers at Dwankhozi Basic School (via Skype and pre-recorded videos) during Monday Morning Meeting. We carried our donation jar back to our classroom and filled it to the top two times by Friday! Throughout the week, we reread the stories Mr. Elliott, Ms. Yokoyama and I wrote about our visit to Zambia and Dwankhozi Basic School last summer. We watched the slide shows of our trip and talked more about how our lives are the same as our Zambian friends and how they are different and wrote about what our partnership means to us. In art, the students created picture pages introducing themselves to the students at Dwankhozi. Around a photo of themselves, they each used colored pencils to draw their homes, their families, their favorite foods and their favorite activities. Student names are written at the top of the page. This summer, these student pages will travel to Zambia with the QAE teachers. The students at Dwankhozi will be able to meet our student through these picture pages and will be asked to create a similar page of their own to be shared with our QAE students in the fall. In honor of Dwankhozi Week, we decided to celebrate our full marble jar with a special African themed choice time. We invited our 2nd grade Reading Buddies to our celebration, and everyone had a great time! | Be sure to check out the Dwankhozi Week Video on our partnership page ~ http://dwankhozi-qae.weebly.com |
