As I complete progress reports this weekend and reflect on how much these amazing little people have grown this year, I find myself not quite ready to part with them. However, I am fully aware that they are more than ready to transition to first grade. I am looking forward to enjoying our final days together this week, and am comforted by the fact that I will get to see them continue to grow for many years to come.
Before the whirlwind of the week begins, I want to take time to give you family members all a huge thank you for the support you have provided this year. So many of you have found the time to come in and support our learning in the classroom. Thank you! Others of you have helped organize volunteers and snacks and gifts and book orders and… Thank you! All of you have supported your child each day as they journeyed through their kindergarten year, sending in snacks and supporting home reading and learning to decipher kindergarten spelling and attending school events! This positive home support is so important in helping maintain your child's positive connection to school. Thank you so much for such giving your kids such an amazing start!
It has been a joy to work with you all this year. I wish you a summer filled with adventure and relaxation.

Assessing Our Collaboration ...
After sharing all of our African Animal Expertise and Artwork with our families at our PBL Celebration, we took some time to reflect on how well we had worked together as animal expert teams. Each group reviewed the group agreements they had written and then used our collaboration rubrics to assess how they did following directions, making and completing a plan, taking turns and doing their jobs (group roles). After assessing their work, groups reflected on ways that they worked well as a team and what things they could do even better next time to work together as a team. One student brought his paper up to me before filling out the last section and said, "I don't have to do that part because there won't be a next time." Sadly, there will not be a kindergarten next time. However, I assured all of the kids that there would be lots and lots of next times for collaborative work at QAE as they journey through the grades. |
